Five Arrested Over Murder Linked to Chieftaincy Dispute in Asemkor

The killing, which occurred on October 6, 2025, reportedly stemmed from a long-standing chieftaincy dispute in the Asemkor community. A statement signed by Superintendent Olivia E. T. Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Regional Police Command, said the victim was attacked and killed amid heightened tensions over the dispute.

Following the incident, the suspects fled the community and went into hiding. However, sustained police intelligence efforts led to the arrest of three suspects — Kennedy Abor, alias Abongo (30), Kojo Attah Panyi (20), and Joseph Basses (30) — on October 15, 2025, at Funko in the Western Region.

Further collaboration between the Western Regional and Accra Regional Intelligence Directorates resulted in the capture of two more key suspects, identified as Abraham Cudjoe, alias Yalle (39), and Ekow Painstil (45), at Afuaman Ayigbe Town in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region on October 21, 2025.

All five suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, and are expected to be arraigned before the court soon.

Meanwhile, the Police Command says it is working closely with traditional and local authorities to maintain peace and prevent further unrest in the Asemkor community, which was recently thrown into chaos following the deadly chieftaincy clashes.
