The story of the Bogoso-Prestea Gold Mine is dramatically shifting from one of decline to one of determined revival. A Century-Old Mine Roars Back to Life: Heath GoldFields Pumps Millions into Bogoso-Prestea Revival

Managing Director Patrick Appiah Mensah, in a major media address, outlined a bold blueprint for the mine’s future, built on a foundation of settling past injustices. The company has already spent over GHS 150 million to clear inherited debts, a move they say was essential to restore trust and hope.

"Generations of miners, families, and communities have drawn their livelihoods from these grounds," Mensah stated. "But the mine fell into severe decline... workers went unpaid, contractors were left with mounting debts, and entire communities lost hope."

Heath GoldFields has taken concrete steps to reverse that despair:

· Payment of over GHS 100 million in outstanding employee salaries and provident funds from the previous operator.
· Settlement of GHS 16.8 million owed to local contractors.
· Investment of GHS 34 million in critical safety and infrastructure upgrades.

The most visible sign of progress is the fierce battle against water. After two years of neglect, the underground workings were flooded. Heath has launched a massive dewatering operation, currently pumping 6,800 cubic meters of water daily—a figure set to rise to over 10,000 cubic meters by October."This is visible progress that shows the mine is on the right path," Mensah said, while cautioning that "two years of neglect cannot be unwound in just a matter of months."

The company’s commitment is underscored by these investments being made ahead of any revenue from gold production. The focus now is on a safe and steady restart: commencing open-pit mining, intensifying dewatering, and refurbishing the processing plant.

The message from Heath GoldFields is clear: the Bogoso-Prestea Gold Mine, a cornerstone of Ghana’s mining history, is officially back in business.
