Clément Lenglet on his France recall for the Nations League finals: ‘I had to check the Internet that it was not a joke.’
Atlético Madrid centre-back Clément Lenglet has been recalled to the French national team for the first time since November 2021. The 29-year-old expressed surprise at the news, stating, "I received a message of congratulations for the call-up. I had to check the Internet to confirm it wasn't a joke."
Lenglet's return comes ahead of France's UEFA Nations League semi-final against Spain on June 5. His last appearance for Les Bleus was during Euro 2020, where he faced criticism for his performance in the round of 16 loss to Switzerland.
Currently on loan at Atlético Madrid from Barcelona, Lenglet has been working to resolve his contractual situation. He is in discussions to extend his loan to participate in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup and potentially remain with Atlético for the 2025–26 season. [3]
