Zakithi Nene Blazes to 43.76s at Kip Keino Classic, Becomes Fourth-Fastest African in 400m History
South African sprinter Zakithi Nene delivered a sensational performance at the 2025 Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi, clocking a personal best of 43.76 seconds to win the men's 400m.

This time not only marks the fastest in the world this year but also propels Nene to fourth place on the African all-time list, trailing only Wayde van Niekerk (43.03), Isaac Makwala (43.72), and Muzala Samukonga (43.74).
Nene's victory at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event was a commanding one, finishing well ahead of Nigeria's Chidi Okezie, who posted a season's best of 44.98 seconds, and Kenya's Zablon Ekhal Ekwam, who completed the race in 45.01 seconds.
This achievement comes shortly after Nene's runner-up finish at the Rabat Diamond League, where he was narrowly beaten by American Jacory Patterson. The 27-year-old's performance in Nairobi not only signifies a remarkable comeback but also solidifies his status as a leading contender in the 400m event on the global stage.
The Kip Keino Classic, held at the Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi, is a prominent track and field meeting named after Olympian Kipchoge Keino. Situated at an altitude of 1,612 meters, the venue is known for producing fast times in sprint events due to reduced air resistance.
Nene's outstanding performance not only enhances his accolades but also contributes to South Africa's rich legacy in sprinting, following in the footsteps of compatriot Wayde van Niekerk. As the athletics season progresses, all eyes will be on Nene to see if he can maintain this exceptional form and challenge the upper echelons of the 400m world rankings.
