A New Dawn for Labour: Gold Fields Equips Tarkwa Labour Department with Modern Equipment

That chapter has finally come to a close.

Gold Fields Ghana Limited, through the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, has donated a brand-new HP desktop computer and a multi-function scanner-printer to the Municipal Labour Office in Tarkwa Nsuaem, breathing new life into an institution that serves as the bedrock of worker-employer relations in the municipality.The cost of the two gadgets is estimated at 20,000 Ghana cedis a modest sum that carries immeasurable value for the men and women who depend on the Labour Department to protect their rights and resolve their grievances.

A Cry for Help Answered

The story began with a passionate appeal. Acting Municipal Labour Officer, Mr. Agyekumhene, recounted the difficult years his department endured, fighting to fulfill its mandate with equipment that had seen better days.

"The past two years were difficult," he recalled, his voice carrying the weight of those frustrating years. "We were having difficulties with our equipment, particularly our printer and then the computer. So we made a passionate appeal to management of Gold Fields Ghana Limited."

That appeal did not fall on deaf ears. About a week ago, the call they had been waiting for finally came. The Human Resources department at Gold Fields Ghana, led by Mr. William Ampeh, had good news, the equipment was ready.

"We are very grateful to Gold Fields Ghana Limited and Gold Fields Ghana Foundation," Farouk Agyekumhene said, his gratitude palpable. "They have been part and parcel of the Labour Department, and the presentation of this equipment will go a long way to help us in our work."

A Partnership Built on Mutual Respect

The donation was more than just a delivery of goods. It was a handshake between two institutions committed to the development of the Tarkwa Nsuaem municipality.

Speaking on behalf of the mining giant, George Mawuli Damien, HR Manager for Employee Relations, explained the genesis of the donation.

"We received a formal request from the Municipal Labour Office for a desktop computer, a scanner, and a printer," he said. "So we spoke to the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation to procure it on behalf of the company. Today, we are here to make a donation of the desktop, HP desktop computer, and a scanner-printer for the use of their official work."

Damien noted that the company believes the donation will go a long way to help the Labour Department in the Tarkwa Nsuaem municipality.

A Promise to Serve Better

Farouk  Agyekumhene sees the new equipment as more than just a technological upgrade. It is a restoration of dignity and professionalism.

"It will allow us to do a professional and technical communication because now the machines that they have submitted are modern," he explained. "They have other applications on them which we don't have with our previous machines."

The Acting Labour Officer wasted no time in assuring Gold Fields that their investment would not be in vain.

"We want to also assure management of Gold Fields and Gold Fields Ghana Foundation that the equipment will be put to good use," he pledged. "Whenever they come to audit it, they will get to know that, in fact, the items that they have given to us, we will put them to good use."

A Future of Collaboration

As the presentation came to an end, the message from both sides was clear: this is not an end, but the beginning of a stronger, more collaborative future.

"We want to also assure them that our office is still open for further collaboration," Mr. Agyekumhene added. "Whenever they need our services too, we are available to help them."

This donation is a digital lifeline for the Labour Department. It is a reaffirmation of Gold Fields' commitment to the community they call home. And it is a promise to the people of Tarkwa Nsuaem that their labour matters, their voices will be heard, and their rights will be protected now with the tools to do so efficiently.
