PROTOA Tarkwa Reverses 15% Transport Fare Reduction Effective October 8
Transport fares in Tarkwa are set to go up again, as the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA) Tarkwa branch has announced a reversal of the 15% fare reduction implemented earlier this year.

In a statement signed by the association’s Secretary, Emmanuel Amoah-Brofo, PROTOA explained that the decision follows a recent increment in petrol prices to GH¢13.38 per litre, driven by the government’s introduction of a GH¢1.00 levy per litre.
The association also cited the refusal of spare parts dealers to reduce prices despite the earlier fare cuts, saying this has made day-to-day operations increasingly difficult for drivers.
As a result, the 15% fare decrease introduced on May 26, 2025, will be reversed to the old transport fares starting Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
PROTOA is therefore appealing to the general public and passengers in the Tarkwa municipality and its surrounding areas to cooperate and understand the challenges faced by drivers.
