Ghana Postpones Cedi@60 Launch Following Fatal Helicopter Crash
The Bank of Ghana has postponed the national launch of the Cedi@60 anniversary celebrations indefinitely, following a tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two government ministers and six others.
The event, originally scheduled for Friday, 8th August 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre, was deferred after President John Dramani Mahama declared a three-day national mourning period. The decision comes in response to the Wednesday (6th August 2025) helicopter accident involving senior state officials.
In a brief statement, the Bank cited the "tragic death of two ministers of state and six others" as the reason for the postponement. It expressed appreciation for "the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders and the general public during this period of national mourning."
No new date has been announced for the launch, which marks 60 years of Ghana’s national currency. The Bank indicated further updates would follow pending the conclusion of the mourning period.
