The Ag. The Director-General of the Service, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, has embarked on a three-day working visit to the northern part of the country to assess the region’s preparedness for the annual meningitis outbreak and other public health emergencies.

His visit began in the Northern Region, where he met with the Regional Minister and visited the Public Health Reference Lab in Tamale to assess its capacity for disease surveillance.

He also engaged with the Regional Health Management Team, discussing emergency response strategies, particularly for meningitis. Additionally, he held discussions with the management of the Tamale Teaching Hospital on strengthening case management and resource mobilization for outbreak response.

Recognizing the essential role of key stakeholders in public health preparedness, Prof. Akoriyea is also engaging with the Regional Coordinating Council, traditional leaders, and opinion leaders to seek their support in strengthening emergency response systems.


Accompanying him on this mission are the Director of Public Health, Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe; Director of Health Promotion, Mrs. Mabel Kisiwah Asafo; and a member of the Case Management Team, Dr. Oliver Commeh. The team will continue their assessment and advocacy efforts in the North East and Upper East Regions to ensure that Ghana remains proactive in tackling public health emergencies.
