The anniversary launch event, held on 25th April, 2025 saw school administrators, alumni, and government officials rallying support to tackle challenges such as inadequate male restroom facilities, a congested infirmary, a shortage of staff bungalows, and an incomplete perimeter fence to protect school lands.

Academic Excellence Amid Challenges

Speaking at the ceremony, Headmaster Mr. John Kofi Sagoe highlighted the school’s academic consistency, including an 85% average qualitative pass rate in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) since 2020. Fiaseman SHS was named Best SHS in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality in 2021 and has produced the municipality’s top male WASSCE candidate for four consecutive years.

“These milestones reflect the dedication of our staff, students, and stakeholders,” Mr. Sagoe said. “Yet, infrastructural gaps that demand immediate resolution hinder our aspirations for greater heights.”

Infrastructure Deficits Take Centre Stage

Key concerns raised at the launch included the lack of proper sanitation facilities for male students, which forces overcrowding, and an infirmary described as “woefully inadequate” for the student population. Teachers also face housing shortages, with many commuting long distances due to insufficient on-site bungalows. Additionally, the incomplete perimeter fence leaves school lands vulnerable to encroachment.

“A school’s environment shapes its outcomes,” Mr. Sagoe stressed. “We need stakeholders to help us build facilities that match the ambition of our students and staff.”

Appeals for Collaboration

Municipal Director of Education, Madam Catherine Andoh Mensah, praised Fiaseman’s academic record but urged alumni and private partners to support infrastructure projects. “The government is doing its part, but we cannot do it alone. Let this anniversary inspire old students to give back to their alma mater,” she said.

Her call was reinforced by Mr. Godfred Akyea Darko, an alumnus and former President of the Old Students Association (OSA), who appealed for swift government intervention. “We alumni have supported projects, but systemic issues like staff housing and security require broader partnerships. The future of Fiaseman depends on it,” he said.

Anniversary Activities to Drive Development

The 70th-anniversary celebrations, themed “Seven Decades of Impact: Building Foundations for the Future,” will include fundraising drives, health walks, and mentorship programs. Proceeds will target infrastructure projects, with a focus on completing the perimeter fence and expanding sanitary facilities.

As the school kicks off its milestone celebrations, stakeholders remain optimistic that renewed advocacy and collaboration will translate challenges into opportunities, ensuring Fiaseman SHS continues to thrive academically while securing the resources needed for holistic growth.
