A Beacon for Truth: Tarkwa Nsuaem Launches Awards to Honour Its Media Guardians
The story of Tarkwa Nsuaem is not just written in the rich ore beneath its soil, but in the daily chronicles of its people—their struggles, triumphs, and unwavering spirit. This narrative finds its voice through the dedicated women and men of the media, whose lenses and microphones have long shaped the municipality’s conscience. On the 28th of November 2025, that service was elevated to a new pedestal with the historic launch of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Media Excellence Awards.
In a celebration framed as a tribute to “the mind” and collective progress, the Tarkwa Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the office of the Member of Parliament, Hon. Issah Salifu Taylor, instituted the awards to formally acknowledge the pillars of the fourth estate. The move was heralded not as a mere event, but as a profound statement of appreciation for the practitioners who document, educate, hold power accountable, and unite the community.
“You amplify the voices of the voiceless,” Hon. Issah Salifu Taylor addressed a gathering of journalists, editors, and broadcasters. “You keep governance in check and development in motion. For this reason, it is only right that we create a platform to celebrate excellence among you.”
The MP positioned the media as indispensable partners in development, pledging that his office “will forever remain open for collaboration.” He urged the community to continue its vital work: “Keep speaking, keep informing, and shaping minds. The good work you are doing must not stop.”
The commitment transcended words, manifesting in tangible investment. In a significant announcement, Hon. Issah Salifu Taylor revealed that his office has already submitted names of selected media personnel for academic scholarships. Come January 2026, the first cohort will begin skills-upgrading programs at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), with a promise to identify and support more professionals in subsequent phases.
“Gradually we shall attend to all. No one will be left behind,” he assured, underscoring a spirit of inclusive empowerment.
Looking beyond the media landscape, the MP unveiled an even grander vision: the forthcoming MP’s Excellence Award. This broader scheme will honour distinguished contributors from every sector of Tarkwa Nsuaem—education, health, security, creative arts, sanitation, activism, and more—aiming to inspire innovation and fuel the municipality’s transformation.
Nominations for the inaugural Media Excellence Awards will open in July 2025, culminating in a landmark ceremony in November 2026. The initiative stands as a budding symbol of Tarkwa Nsuaem’s collective respect for the power of storytelling and its guardians, ensuring that those who illuminate the path forward are, themselves, celebrated in the light.
