TIPPER TRUCKS BARRED FROM ANGLOGOLD JUNCTION–QUARRY ROAD AFTER FATAL CRASH

What began as an ordinary day ended in heartbreak for several families when a runaway tipper truck turned a traffic congestion into a scene of death and devastation. Less than two weeks after the tragedy that killed four people, the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Security Council has announced sweeping restrictions on the movement of loaded tipper trucks within the municipality.

The announcement was contained in a press release issued by the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly and signed by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ebenezer Cobbinah.

According to the release, all loaded tipper trucks transporting quarry materials, stones, sand and other heavy loads have been prohibited from using the AngloGold Junction–Quarry Road corridor with immediate effect.

The directive follows a fatal accident on May 29, 2026, in which a loaded tipper truck reportedly lost control and crashed into vehicles stuck in traffic along the stretch, killing three adults and an infant.

The Assembly says the tragedy prompted an emergency meeting between the Municipal Security Council and executives of the Tipper Truck Operators Association to discuss measures to improve road safety and prevent a recurrence.

As part of the new arrangement, all loaded tipper trucks have been directed to use the Teberebie Junction route instead.

The release explains that the measure forms part of efforts to safeguard lives and property and reduce the risk posed by heavy-duty vehicles operating within populated sections of the municipality.

It further urged truck owners, operators and drivers to comply fully with the directive in the interest of public safety.

The Assembly noted that enforcement will be undertaken jointly by the Municipal Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service and the Tarkwa Police Command.

It warned that any operator who disregards the directive will be sanctioned in accordance with the law.

The Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly says it remains committed to ensuring safer roads for residents and preventing a repeat of the tragedy that claimed four lives.
