Tarkwa Nsuaem MP  Pledges Inclusive Development at Thanksgiving Service
Speaking at a well-attended thanksgiving service organized by the Tarkwa Local Council of Churches at Tarkwa Banso, his hometown, the newly-elected MP declared his unwavering commitment to serve the people, irrespective of their political affiliations.
“I am beholden by the honour done me. You have proved your love for me, and I sincerely thank all those who voted during the elections,” he said. “If not for you, who am I? I wouldn’t be here today. God destined me to be MP, and I must obey His call to lead His people.”
Hon. Taylor, who formerly worked at Ghana Manganese Company (GMC), likened his unexpected political journey to the biblical David, stating that when God’s favour locates an individual, no human limitations can stop them.
“I would have been preparing for retirement at GMC, but God had a different plan. Just like David was chosen as king, I too was chosen to serve Tarkwa Nsuaem.”
In a spirit of humility and unity, Hon. Taylor extended respect to his predecessor, former MP George Mireku Duker, acknowledging his contributions and promising to build upon them.
“I will not insult or discredit Hon. Duker. He did his part, and I’m here to continue. Let’s correct the mistakes together, devoid of politics. That’s how we build a constituency and a nation.”
Tackling Infrastructure and Unemployment
Touching on pressing developmental issues, the MP promised to revisit the poor road project at Tarkwa Banso. He admitted the contractor’s shoddy work and assured constituents of a full investigation into the contract.
“We’ll find out why the contractor left and what the actual terms were. The people deserve to know.”
He also pledged to address youth unemployment by supporting skills training and vocational education. Initiatives mentioned include partnerships with a driving school to provide licences and vehicles on flexible repayment terms, as well as supplying tools and machines for hairdressing and tailoring.
“Whatever we said during the campaign, we’ll fulfil. A good name is better than riches.”
Issah Taylor further disclosed plans to provide interest-free loans for women traders and launch scholarship schemes for needy but brilliant students, emphasizing the need to eliminate political partisanship in accessing such benefits.
“We’re not here to amass wealth but to serve and leave a legacy. My doors are open to all, regardless of your political party.”
Call for Unity, Peace, and Morality
Appealing for peace and unity, the MP urged chiefs, imams, and pastors to preach harmony.
“Politics is dividing us, and when that happens, development stalls. Whether NDC or not, I’m here as a proud son of Tarkwa Nsuaem.”
The queen of Tarkwa Banso, Nana Nyark Badu III, lauded God for the honour bestowed on the town through Hon. Taylor’s election. She emphasized the need for urgent attention to the community’s road network and youth unemployment.“If our youth are not employed, the town won’t develop. Please help them with education and job opportunities. Also, advise them against drug abuse.”
She called on parents to guide their children, warning against the dangers of tramadol, Red, and other harmful substances that threaten the community’s future leadership.
Clergy Urge Service and Righteous Leadership
Delivering the sermon, Pastor Benjamin Vuvor, speaking on behalf of Church of Pentecost Area Head Dr. Nyansah Hayfron, quoted Acts 13:36, reminding the MP and the congregation that leadership is a divine responsibility that must be used to serve others and leave a good name.
“David wasn’t the first choice by human standards, but God saw his heart. Don’t be a lord over the people; serve them. A good name, as Proverbs 22:1 says, is better than riches.”
Chairman of the local council of churches, Pastor James Awitor, also warned against increasing trends of drug abuse, alcoholism, gang violence, and risky sexual behaviour among the youth. He recommended mentorship, parental guidance, and positive role modelling as solutions.
“Let’s unite for development. The youth must focus on education and stay away from harmful habits.”
The Thanksgiving event drew a large crowd, including traditional leaders, clergy, youth, and community members, all rallying behind the Member of Parliament, Issah Salifu Taylor and expressing hope in his vision to transform Tarkwa Nsuaem through humility, service, and faith in God.
