A Community’s Health, A Shared Promise: Gold Fields Ghana Foundation Brings Vital Care to New Atuabo
Held on Saturday, 11th October 2025, the outreach transformed the community into a hub of holistic healthcare, offering a lifeline of services to hundreds of residents from New Atuabo and its environs. In a powerful demonstration of collective action, the Foundation partnered with Telecel Ghana, Unilever Ghana, and the Rotary Club of Tarkwa to deliver on a cornerstone of sustainable development: the right to quality health.
“This outreach is a vital part of our Group Legacy Programme, which places health awareness and access at the very heart of sustainable community development,” said Mrs Ayishetu Aubynn, Project Coordinator for the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation. The initiative also powerfully reaffirmed Gold Fields’ commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Good Health and Well-being and Partnerships for the Goals.
In commemoration of Pinktober, a poignant emphasis was placed on the fight against breast cancer. Community members received crucial education and screening, a service that has seen 283 women screened over the past year, with 49 referred for further assessment and care—a testament to the life-saving potential of these initiatives.
But the day’s care extended far beyond. The grounds buzzed with activity as attendees accessed an array of essential services: blood sugar and pressure checks, BMI assessments, malaria testing, and dental and eye examinations. For many, it was a rare opportunity for a comprehensive health review, all provided free of charge.
A key highlight that drew long, grateful queues was the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration. In a generous move, Telecel Ghana sponsored 500 NHIS registrations and provided medical equipment for ultrasound scanning. By the day’s end, 741 community members had either registered or renewed their cards, ensuring their access to healthcare would continue long after the event concluded.
Adding to the spirit of wellness, Unilever Ghana supported the outreach with donations of toothpaste and hygiene supplies, distributed to all participants. In total, approximately 630 individuals walked away healthier, better informed, and more secure in their well-being.
Perhaps the most beautiful symbol of the Foundation’s lasting impact was the composition of the medical team itself. Notably, about 60% of the health practitioners were current and former beneficiaries of the Foundation’s scholarship programme. These dedicated professionals, once supported in their dreams, have returned to become the very pillars of community health, creating a virtuous cycle of investment and empowerment.
They were joined by a dedicated team of qualified professionals from the Tarkwa Mine Hospital (Euracare) and the Prestea-Huni-Valley and Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Health Directorates.
The event was more than a single day of medical care; it was a vibrant illustration of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation’s unwavering dedication. To date, this commitment is reflected in a staggering investment of over US$4.9 million in health and wellness initiatives, a mission that continues to enhance the quality of life and sow the seeds of a healthier, more resilient future for all.
