Russian President Vladimir Putin Pays Tribute to Pope Francis Following His Passing on Easter Monday

In a message to Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, President Putin stated:

"Please accept my most sincere condolences on the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. Throughout the years of his pontificate, he actively promoted the development of dialogue between the Russian Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches, as well as constructive cooperation between Russia and the Holy See."

President Putin further described Pope Francis as "a faithful servant of Christian doctrine, a wise religious and statesman, and a consistent defender of the lofty values of humanism and justice."

The Pope's passing on Easter Monday holds particular significance in Orthodox Christian tradition, where it is believed that those who pass away during Easter are granted a special grace, symbolizing a life of purpose and goodness.

Pope Francis, the first Latin American pontiff, was widely recognised for his humility, advocacy for the marginalised, and efforts to bridge divides between different faiths.
